Hot pepper “Madame Jeanette”(Capsicum chinense “Madame Jeanette”). The name “Madame Jeanette” suits this hot pepper well: it is “perfumed” with a rich range of aromas, with notes of pineapple and mango. It measures from 100 000 to 350 000 Scoville units. For comparison, pure capsaicin, which is responsible for a pepper's heat, measures 16 000 000 Scoville units. Its heat is rich and felt throughout the mouth, making it less suitable for fresh consumption. It is preferred for sauces and a variety of dishes.

• Heat level: very hot
• Annual plant*
• Sowing period: January-April, seedlings are grown, and in May they are planted in the garden or in a greenhouse.
• Flowering and fruiting: late July - October*
• Fruit size: 4-12 cm long and 3-5 cm wide.
• Height: up to 70 cm.
• Package contents: 15 seeds.

Sowing method: from January to April, raise seedlings in propagators; they develop best at 25-30^oC in a sunny location. We recommend using a heated propagator, which will speed up germination and growth.

• Before sowing, soak the seeds in water for 30 min to soften their coat.
• Sowing depth: 1 cm.
• Water regularly and do not allow the substrate to dry out completely. We recommend the specialised seedling substrate CANNA Terra Seed Mix 25 l.

Growing method: Chilli pepper is a tropical plant that requires warmth, moisture and sunlight.

Environmental requirements:

• Light - a sunny location receiving at least 8 hours of sun per day.
• Soil - rich in organic matter
• Humidity - do not let the soil dry out. Well-watered soil provides the air humidity plants need.
• Warmth - heat-loving (20-30^oC), does not tolerate low temperatures (<10^oC).

Plant the finished seedlings outdoors or in a greenhouse in May, once the risk of frost has passed. If necessary, newly planted plants can be covered with plastic for the first few weeks. This helps them acclimatise.
If you would like to grow it at home, you can browse the options for lighting, ventilation, grow tents, pots and other accessories.

Fertilisation: during the vegetative, flowering and fruiting stages. You can explore our extensive range of organic and mineral fertilisers here.

*After the outdoor season ends, plants can be moved indoors and continue to bear fruit.

Warning! Always wear gloves and safety glasses when cutting and preparing the fruit of extremely hot pepper varieties!

Seeds for Kiwano cucumber. Exotic decoration or an interesting new taste!

• Botanical name: Cucumis metuliferus (family Cucurbitaceae).
• Variety: Kiwano
• The fruits are small, 9 to 15 cm long, oval in shape and weigh between 200 and 300 g.
• The rind is bright orange-yellow, resembles an overripe cucumber and has numerous spines. The flesh of the fruit is jelly-like and green.
• The flavour is unusual for our region – a combination of cucumber and banana with a hint of lemon.
• It can be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors; it is advisable to sow the seeds in a pot or small container first, to provide the necessary temperature and moisture at the initial stage.
• A frame or netting should be used to grow the plant, ensuring optimal growth, aeration and convenient harvesting.

Growing recommendations

• The seedlings are ready for transplanting outdoors when they have 2nd-3rd true leaves and a stable soil temperature above 20°C. If growing outside a greenhouse, choose a sunny site sheltered from wind.
• Watering should be moderate and at regular intervals. Avoid infrequent watering with large amounts of water!
• For soils poor in nutrients, we recommend feeding with fertilisers.
• The fruits are ready to harvest when the rind is bright orange-yellow and slightly firm. When the rind softens, the flavour and texture change.
• The inner green part of the fruit is eaten and can be served with salt, sugar or in a salad.
