Pink Lily of the Valley Bulb (Convallaria majalis Rosea) - 1 pc
26,00 lei
Convallaria majalis Rosea, also known locally as pink lily of the valley, is a perennial, winter-hardy rhizomatous plant very suitable for growing in poor, shady soil. It flowers in late spring with its characteristic sweetly scented, rounded bell-shaped flowers in a rare soft pink colour.
- height: 20 - 30 cm
- flowers: pink
- strong fragrance
- flowering: late spring
Lily of the valley is a perennial herbaceous plant with a thin, rounded to almost triangular leafless flowering stem and a creeping horizontal rhizome. At the base of the stem, 2, rarely 3 leaves with a membranous sheath develop, up to 20 cm long. They are entire, oblong, elliptical and pointed, with longitudinal veins and long petioles. At the top of the stem, the flowers are found in racemose inflorescences; they are single, rarely double. They are arranged in the axils of small whitish, linear and lanceolate bracts, with up to 20 flowers per inflorescence. The flowers are white, bell-shaped, drooping, on short stalks, bisexual, with 6 fused petals and 6 stamens.
The fruit is a spherical red berry with multiple seeds (a small fruit); it must not be eaten because it is highly poisonous. The flowers also contain the poisonous substance convallatoxin (Convallatoxin), despite their very pleasant scent and the plant's melliferous and medicinal properties, as do all other parts of the plant to some degree, including the leaves and rhizomes. Convallatoxin can cause an increase in blood pressure, followed by arrhythmia and death.
