Seeds for Apple Mint — an aromatic perennial herb with rounded leaves and a fresh apple-like fragrance, suitable for tea, salads and fragrant gardens.

Detailed features

• Botanical name: Mentha rotundifolia (L.) Huds. (sometimes listed as Mentha suaveolens) — often called “apple mint” or “round-leaved mint”.
• Plant type: perennial herbaceous plant from the Lamiaceae family.
• Height: approximately 30-50 cm
• Spread: Grows via branched roots (rhizomes/stolons), allowing the plant to spread and fill an area.
• Leaf shape and fragrance: Round or oval leaves with a delicate apple-like fragrance characteristic of the species.
• Growing conditions: Prefers full sun to partial shade; well-drained, moderately moist soil.
• Sowing: Sow seeds on the surface or cover them very lightly, in a moderately warm environment (~20-22 °C) for germination.

Recommendations for use

• Sow seeds outdoors after the risk of frost has passed, or indoors/in pots for a later start. Cover only very lightly or do not cover at all, as light supports germination.
• Keep the soil moderately moist, avoiding excessive drying or waterlogging.
• Provide support or containment if planting directly outdoors, as the plant spreads and can grow extensively.
• Make the most of the fragrant leaves: use them fresh in teas, salads, as a garnish or flavouring.
• Regularly pinching out the tips encourages growth and maintains a compact shape; if the plant begins to flower, the leaves may become less aromatic.
• To control spread, grow it in a pot or container to prevent unwanted expansion in the garden.

Benefits

Apple mint (Mentha rotundifolia) is a versatile, easy-to-grow aromatic herb with ornamental value and culinary uses. The seeds allow you to grow it yourself and provide fresh leaves for tea, cooking or a fragrant garden. With proper care, the plant becomes a vigorous, aromatic addition to your herb collection.
